In July 1997, Simple Machines released the Poodle b/w Old City 7” as a teaser to Tsunami’s third full-length album, A Brilliant Mistake. The bouncy A side track, “Poodle”, uses the true tale of a precedent-setting team of poodles that ran the Iditerod sled race to ask: whose rules are you breaking? The B side track, “Old City”, only released on the 7”, is an infectious indie rock number about stolen cars and bricks through windows in Philadelphia. The single captures Tsunami on the cusp of the release of its most mature and ambitious album, A Brilliant Mistake.

A fantastic album. I can see why they didn't continue under the name The Evens, as it's a different sound with the bass added. Coriky is the Evens + Joe Lally from Fugazi on bass. If you can imagine The Evens with a slightly more funky, aggressive sound like Fugazi... that's what you get! And there's no way that can ever go wrong. What a great debut album!! smiledozer
